Since
it was founded in 1949, Salem Press has developed a list
of more than 400 volumes of library reference which librarians frequently
refer to as "Magill Books." Each Magill Book is guided by a
consistent publishing philosophy - Objectively survey a field, write in
accessible language, and deliver the information both students and general
readers expect to find easily in the library.
Today,
the editors of Salem Press continue to recruit professors and critics
nationwide to put into print reference works in the fields of literature,
biography, history, social science, philosophy, and science at a level
appropriate for both young adult and adult readers
